Attending the Ultra Luxury Events showcase in Dubai, Savile Row Travel’s CEO Richard Lewis spent a January week discovering how the glittering city has changed since his last visit before the pandemic. Here, he shares his honest review of the four hotels he visited, including which one gets the top spot…
“Having returned to Dubai for the first time properly since pre-pandemic days, I was instantly hit by the changes and growth in the city’s famous skyline. With more than 800 hotels across Dubai, it’s easy to get lost in endless searching and comparing but that’s where we come in at Savile Row Travel. As a team, we endeavour to visit every hotel in our portfolio so we can offer the perfect match for our clients. I spent a few nights at two of the newer hotels and visited a couple more to see exactly what had changed.”
“I stayed for one night at the Jumeirah Mina Al Salam which sits within the Jumeirah Madinat complex. It’s a very comfortable hotel with lovely access to the various pools and beaches. You have a great view of the iconic Burj Al Arab from the beach and plenty of dining choices on your doorstep. The Wild Wadi waterpark is also right on your doorstop.”
Jumeirah Madinat is a modern interpretation of a traditional Arab village featuring four luxury desert-coloured resorts and 29 enchanting restaurants intertwined by blue waterways and romantic gardens. Abras (wooden boat) take you wherever you want to go in the complex!”
“This clearly is a hotel that is geared toward the adult market who want to have world-class amenities and entertainment on their doorstep. From the moment you enter the impressive lobby, you feel a buzz. An exclusive atmosphere, designer shops, and restaurants from Nobu to Milos immediately set the tone for what is going to be a memorable stay. Club Rooms and Suite guests are whisked away, straight to a private check-in experience with refreshments – a welcome break from the intense Dubai heat.”
“The rooms are really very nice and exactly what you’d expect from a new 5* hotel. Having the choice of the adults-only Nobu pool, the beach or the family pool also means everyone is catered for – and you’ve also got access to the Atlantis waterpark to keep families busy.”
“You can’t mention the Atlantis The Royal without talking about Cloud 22, the insta-worthy adults-only rooftop pool and bar, which is spectacular at every moment of the day. The view is incomparable to any I’ve seen before, with the whole palm stretched out in front of you. This is a place meant for very few to enjoy, certainly at the height of Dubai’s socialite bucket list.”
“I briefly visited the new Delano Hotel on Bluewaters Island which introduces a fresh resort experience in the city, with a sleek and modern design. Simply put, it’s stunning, in a great location, surrounded by exceptional bars and restaurants – what’s not to like?”
“At the end of my trip, I stayed for my final two nights at the stunning Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, located a short 15-20 minutes from the airport. The dining options at this hotel were superb, although special mention goes to Netsu, a Japanese steakhouse where the atmosphere was as delicious as the food! The pools are laid out wonderfully ahead of the pristine beach, and the spa is fantastic. The rooms were incredibly well-appointed, and the service throughout was second to none. It was also a bonus having a rooftop padel court. For me, the hotel lends itself more towards adults but it does offer kids facilities too.”
Overall, Dubai offers something for everyone. The varying beach clubs, bars, restaurants, views, entertainment, golf, it’s all there and the weather is almost guaranteed. The added benefit, is you just have the overriding sense of safety.
