A vibrant and intimate lodge, ideally suited for families and the young at heart
Ecca Lodge offers an indoor-outdoor lifestyle embracing the African wilderness. Set in the heart of the Private Reserve overlooking a valley, the lodge offers breath-taking views onto an escarpment of shale cliffs. A highlight of the main guest area is a wooden viewing deck that showcases the exceptional views.
With only six suites, three of which are dedicated to families, the lodge is intimate, relaxed and trendy, with decor inspired by the natural textures of the African bush. The double suites can accommodate two adults each and the family suites accommodate two adults and two children (under 16 yrs on day beds in the lounge). Family suites also include a private vehicle and ranger. All rooms have private plunge pools and outdoor showers to enhance the connection with nature.
Experiences
All guests at Ecca can enjoy twice daily game drives, nature walks and big game walking safaris. Guests in family suites are allocated a private guide and vehicle. At the lodge, The Den is ideally equipped to keep little hands busy for hours and a shared lodge pool provides the perfect place for a communal splash. Additional family activities include board games, scavenger hunts and more.
Adventurous activities on the reserve include scavenger hunts with thought-provoking clues to seek out hidden items, Minnow’s fishing trips, and treasure hunts using major landscape features in order to find the treasure! Back at base, kids can get involved in beading, a ‘Chefs-in-Training’ cooking lesson including baking and pizza-making, eco-educational board games, sand art, and African bedtime stories.
Get involved in planting Spekboom to offset your carbon footprints. Spekboom is a type of thicket vegetation that is native to the Eastern Cape and one of the top five carbon-storing vegetations on the planet. Families can also participate in Kwandwe’s voluntourism activities through the Ubunye Foundation, which works with communities living in and surrounding the reserve. Young guests can assist with gardening projects at the local Mgcamabele Community and participate in arts and craft activities, including the ‘Knit a Bit’ program. Toddlers are invited to join in playtime at the pre-school.
A variety of wellness treatments are available to be enjoyed in the privacy of your suite. Our product of choice is TheraNaka™, meaning ‘Beauty of Africa’. TheraNaka™ incorporates only the finest natural ingredients from the best selection of African plant extracts supporting organic certification, sustainability and Fair Trade.
