Dining

While guests discover the natural wonders of the Cederberg mountains, or travel back in time through the ancient rock art sites of Bushmans Kloof, talented chefs lay on a culinary adventure of their own each day. Much of the fresh produce served at Bushmans Kloof comes from the extensive on-site kitchen gardens, and the menus evolve daily with the waxing and waning of the seasons. Alongside working with what’s fresh from the gardens, the indigenous fynbos of the Cape Floral Kingdom provide equal inspiration, from the world-famous rooibos endemic to the Cederberg to the wild herbs that grow here in abundance. Whether you’re dining at a candlelit table laid in white linen napery, or enjoying an al fresco barbecue beneath the southern stars, on every plate at Bushmans Kloof you’ll enjoy a journey of discovery into the culinary traditions of South Africa’s Western Cape.

Breakfast the BK way

Breakfast at Bushmans Kloof offers a wonderfully decadent way to start the day. Begin with a platter of charcuterie, cheese, and fresh fruit – often picked from the lodge gardens – accompanied by perfect pastries from the kitchen. The à la carte menu of inspired hot plates changes daily, ranging from the classic English breakfast to delicious Eggs Benedict. The chefs are also adept at creatively catering to dietary preferences, whether it’s an indulgent plate of gluten-free crêpes or a vegan aubergine steak. End off with a glass of chilled Méthode Cape Classique sparkling wine from a South African estate.

The Homestead

The Homestead is the heart of the lodge; the dining room and terrace area is a haven of old-world charm and elegance, augmented by an outstanding private art collection. This formal dining room has an air of warmth and splendid luxury. Discover specialities offered from our Executive Chef’s table a la carte menu. Dishes are a feast for all the senses, served in an atmosphere of conviviality and true South African hospitality.

Rock Art & Heritage

Tribes of the nomadic San people lived amid the sandstone outcrops of the Cederberg since time forgotten, daubing their culture, history and shamanic visions on rocky overhangs in paint of ochre, sap and blood. Today these ancient artworks, some dating back more than 10,000 years, are the highlight of any visit to Bushmans Kloof.  Proclaimed as a South African National Heritage Site, Bushmans Kloof protects more than 130 unique rock art sites across the 7500-hectare reserve. While recognising the immeasurable value these ancient paintings hold in the nation’s cultural landscape, we are honoured to be able to share these shards of human history with visitors.
