Located in the premier wine-growing region of the Cape Winelands against the backdrop of the Simonsberg Mountain, Babylonstoren has become a popular destination for visitors from around the world. Dating back to 1692, the historic fruit and wine farm was skilfully reimagined by its current owners more than a decade ago. It is loved and best known for its magnificent formal fruit and vegetable garden. Every single aspect of Babylonstoren – including the contemporary Farm Hotel and Garden Spa, the Farm Shop, winery, farm-to-fork restaurants, Scented Room and Bakery – is led by the ever-changing tapestry and botanical diversity of the garden.
As the farm has evolved, the experience continues to improve and delight guests. Some of the new experiences for guests to enjoy include our new sundowner experience – up into the hills beyond the farm in a landrover and where it is possible to see as far as Table Mountain as the sun slips beyond the horizon. There are also guided afternoon walks on offer and fly fishing up at the dam. The latest news is the wine museum and a 9 wine cellar tasting experience. The farm is making their own gelato and this adds to the many products that they sell including homemade breads, cheeses, pickles and essential oil balms, olive oils, balsamic and wines of course. They have extended their own kitchen gardens so that all of the produce can be grown on the Farm and guests can harvest and join in as much as they would like to. As well as being hugely romantic, perfect for foodies, winelovers, budding gardeners or those with special horticultural interests, the Farm is particularly good for families where the kids can be involved with collecting the eggs, feeding the donkeys, playing in the giant bird nests, exploring, cycling, fishing, canoeing, as well as many surprises for the whole family can discover. The Spa has been extended to include a double hammam and Rasul chamber. The Rasul ritual is a multi-step process that is self-applied and includes a deep exfoliation and detoxing body wrap from locally sourced clay. The recently-renovated hot spa is available to the main hotel guests, bringing the outside in with a glass panelled roof allowing more light so guests can enjoy the sky from the vitality pool as well as enjoying the salt room, steam room and sauna.

Facilities & Experiences
Families are very welcome at Babylonstoren. They offer a farm and garden experience – children love the animals and space outside. Babysitting can be arranged for parents who would like to venture out or have a quiet meal at one of the restaurants.
Hotel guests are invited to join us on an early-morning guided visit to the lower part of the farm where the more than 100 water buffalo in the herd graze and bathe. Witness the daily milking process and join in feeding the calves. Children aged two and older, accompanied by an adult, are also welcome. After the tour, enjoy mozzarella, yoghurt and butter made from water buffalo milk at Babel breakfast, or a scoop of water buffalo gelato in the Gelato Room.
Guests who stay two nights or longer can join a guided mountain drive (weather permitting at 14h00 and 16h00 in winter, and at 15h00 and 17h00 in summer). Come and immerse yourself in the farm’s late-afternoon tranquillity and learn about Babylonstoren’s history, vineyards and orchards, and the fynbos and trees.
Starts at Reception at 11:30am daily. Come and immerse yourself in the pure, sweet essence of lavender, rosemary and other fragrant plants. Learn about the steam distillation method used to extract essential oils from these plants. Depending on the season, guests will harvest lavender or rosemary, especially grown for making essential oils.
Experienced guests who love the great outdoors can try their hand at fly fishing. Guests are accompanied by a guide. Available Monday to Sunday. The farm dam also offers guests the opportunity to enjoy bass fishing.
Guests are invited to flour it up with the master baker every morning at 11am. Come and learn the secret home-baked recipes and shaping methods so that you can impress at home.
