Between Heaven & Earth
Swahili for ‘suspended in mid-air’, Angama offers high-touch safari experiences in one-of-a-kind locations across East Africa.
Angama Mara, perched atop the Oloololo escarpment with breathtaking views of the Mara Triangle, opened in 2016 and features two intimate camps. Each camp consists of 15 suites with canvas sides and tented roofs, but their glass fronts offer stunning 180-degree views of the savannah—whether you’re lounging in bed or enjoying a shower. This isn’t your typical safari lodge; its sleek design, influenced by Italian aesthetics, adds a touch of cosmopolitan elegance. A pavilion housing a library, boutique, fitness centre, and infinity pool enhances the experience, seamlessly blending luxury with the wild surroundings.
Angama Mara breaks away from the traditional two-a-day game drive schedule, letting you tailor your wildlife experiences to your preferences—whether it’s a full-day adventure, a short two-hour excursion, a birding-focused outing, or even a walking safari. The heart of the action, where the Mara Triangle’s Big Five roam, is just a ten-minute drive down a private road. From your suite, you can watch elephants, buffalo, and giraffes wandering below, while raptors glide overhead. For those eager to stretch their legs, Maasai-led walking safaris offer an immersive way to explore the landscape on foot.
Enjoy the à la carte menu in your suite or in the restaurant, decorated with modern and traditional Maasai aesthetics, or dine outside for a picnic straight from Out of Africa.
Included
Guided safaris into the Mara Triangle, guided walking safaris on the escarpment, all meals and drinks, laundry, WiFi, on-property guest experiences and child-minding.
Angama Mara’s elegant Tented Suites have been designed to make the most of the extraordinary views of the Maasai Mara from every angle – from the bed, the bath, the sitting area, the shower and even the w/c. The front of the tents feature floor-to-ceiling glass, while the roof and the other three sides are canvas – classic safari olive on the outside and cream on the inside for romance. Spanning over 100 sqm, the Tented Suites all include spacious decks for in-tent dining, massage treatments and red rocking chair safaris.
The Tented Suites each feature a super king, extra length bed, a handsome drinks cabinet, vanity with double basins, separate w/c, writing desk and a Butler’s Lobby allowing for the discreet delivery of early morning tea and coffee.
Two sets of family suites are available — two standard tents connected by a secure interleading passageway. Each set can sleep up to two adults and four children. Guests can enjoy their space and privacy, with the peace of mind of being able to move safely and easily between the two Tented Suites.
Guests have the option of staying at Patty’s Tent, a Tented Suite designed specifically with accessibility in mind for guests with physical limitations. The tent includes modifications such as grab rails and ramps, but without sacrificing any special touches or comforts. The suite is clear of any unnecessary furniture. Accessible paths between the Tented Suite, Guest Area and vehicle drop-off point
A place of orientation, educational exploration and embarkation, the Map Room provides guests with a sense of place within the Greater Maasai Mara eco-system and further into East Africa. It is the starting point for guests on safari, as well as a place to reconvene afterwards to share experiences and wildlife sighting information.
A workspace of creativity and storytelling, the Photographic Studio is an exciting hub of imagery, content creation, teaching and sharing. Attend hands-on private photographic tutorials and editing sessions with the on-site Photographer or Studio Manager using the large-screen Apple desktops, loaded with the latest software. You can also print a small portfolio of your photographs on the photographic printer and rent cameras and photographic equipment.
The Safari Shop showcases locally made and carefully curated items from jewellery and beaded belts to felt safari hats and Anna Trzebinski’s famous pashminas — a little piece of Africa to take home as a gift or as a memory for yourself. Leading off from the shop is the sunny and bright Beading Studio where Maasai ladies from the neighbouring community come daily to create bespoke items.
The lodge’s 12-metre rim-flow Swimming Pool overlooks the Mara, surrounded by deck chairs, the perfect spot to bask in the sun with a good book. Around the corner is the Fitness Room with a selection of Technogym equipment — with floor-to-ceiling stacking glass doors — you will be hard-pressed to find a treadmill with a better view of all of Africa.
