Indochina comprises the three neighbouring countries of Vietnam, Cambodia and Loas. It covers a total area of over 740,000 square kilometres stretching south from the Chinese border as far west as the Thai and Burmese borders.
In our eyes Vietnam is the most diverse country within Southeast Asia: the juxtaposition between North and South is clear and makes for many fascinating experiences in this wondrous country. Our advice is to go with an open mind and you will not be disappointed.
Vietnam and Cambodia have incredibly varied and beautiful landscapes. Their climates vary from the relative cold of Hanoi in the north to the tropical climate of Saigon and Phnom Penh in the southern reaches of the peninsula. Each country has its own highlights from the amazing temple complex of Angkor Wat in Cambodia to the UNESCO heritage sites of Hoi An in Vietnam.
One of the highlights of a visit to Vietnam is a cruise through the stunning Halong Bay, in the northeast of the country. The Bay is known for its glistening emerald waters and thousands of towering limestone islands, each topped by lush rainforests. Hop aboard a traditional junk boat tour or venture out on a sea kayak expedition through islands named for their shapes – including Stone Dog and Teapot islets! Scuba diving, rock climbing and hiking are also popular activities in their area, particularly in the mountainous Cát Bà National Park, so you definitely won’t get bored.
